Rwanda | The Thousand Hills — Origin

A Thousand Hills. One Extraordinary Cup.

Rwanda is small in size but immense in coffee character. From the endless mist-shrouded ridges of this landlocked East African nation, over 400,000 smallholder growers tend pure Arabica at elevations between 1,400 and 1,900 metres. This lot unites the meticulous harvests of 35,000 independent farmers, their peak-ripeness Bourbon and Typica cherries processed through a network of 40 regional washing stations before final grading at the Rwanda Trading Company in Kigali — a triumph of collective determination in every bag.

Expert Tip

Light-to-medium roasts retain a highly dense organic structure, requiring a precise approach to unlock their complex sweetness. We recommend a high water temperature between 94°C and 96°C (just a few moments off the boil) combined with a clean filter method like a V60 or Chemex.

Use a slightly coarser grind setting than your standard filter grind and a 1:16 brewing ratio (e.g., 15g of coffee grounds to 240g of water). This ensures a steady extraction flow that coaxes out the delicate fruit clarity without choking the brew.

Caffeine & Your Heart

Sourced exclusively from pure Bourbon and Typica Arabica varietals, this lot naturally provides a smooth, sustained energy curve. Premium high-altitude Arabica coffee contains a significantly lower caffeine concentration (approx. 1.1% to 1.4% by weight) than commercial-grade Robusta beans.

This gentle profile reduces the likelihood of heart jitters, sudden spikes, or blood pressure crashes. To evaluate your personal tolerance levels or to read more about how caffeine impacts cardiovascular well-being, visit the British Heart Foundation Caffeine Guidance.

Origin

Sourced from the soaring, high-altitude interior ridges of landlocked Rwanda, famously known as the Land of a Thousand Hills. This exceptional lot combines the meticulous, hand-picked harvests of 35,000 independent smallholder farmers delivering peak-ripeness cherries across a collective network of 40 regional washing stations.

Suspended between 1,400 and 1,900 MASL, the slow-maturing trees develop exceptional density before the lot is brought to Kigali for careful hulling, meticulous grading, and exhaustive hand-sorting.

Storage & Freshness

To protect the delicate, volatile fruit oils and pristine cranberry aromatics of this light-to-medium roast, store your coffee in a cool, dark pantry away from ambient moisture or heat from appliances. Keep the bag securely sealed with the integrated zipper lock.

The package features a specialized one-way degassing valve to let natural carbon dioxide exit while completely blocking oxygen. Avoid storing your beans in a refrigerator or freezer, as the temperature swings generate condensation that rapidly dulls the profile.

Cost Per Cup

Bringing the premium café experience into your home kitchen offers massive financial value without compromising on bean quality, sustainability, or flavor. Using the specialty coffee industry standard brewing ratio of 15 grams of coffee grounds per 250ml cup, our 250g bag size (£18.99) yields roughly 16 individual cups at an affordable £1.14 per cup, while choosing the 1kg bulk size option (£43.99) yields roughly 66 individual servings, dropping your price down to a remarkable £0.67 per cup (with all shipping fees completely absorbed).

When compared to the average high-street coffee shop prices of £3.85 to £4.60 per beverage, brewing The Thousand Hills at home saves you up to £3.93 per drink, letting you save over £115 a month while maintaining complete control over your morning flavor extraction.
