Red Berry Rubedo Origin Image — Hamburg

A History of Rubedo & The Crimson Elixir

The name Rubedo hails from ancient European alchemy, marking the final stage of the Magnum Opus—the "reddening" that signalled the creation of the Philosopher’s Stone and the transformation of base elements into pure gold.In medieval Germany, apothecaries and master blenders dried late-summer forest fruits, elderberries, rosehips, and hibiscus petals traded along continental routes. These vibrant crimson elixirs were revered as premium winter tonics, drunk to bring warmth, vitality, and protection. Today, brewing these rich botanicals welcomes you into a timeless European tradition that turns raw, sun-kissed fruits into a flawless, crimson masterpiece.

Expert Tip

Cold brew for maximum sweetness. The Red Berry Rubedo is one of the few teas that genuinely improves with cold brewing. Drop two pyramid bags or two heaped teaspoons into a pitcher of cold water and leave in the fridge overnight (8–12 hours). Cold water extracts the natural fructose from the apple and berry pieces slowly, without shocking the tart hibiscus — producing a smoother, sweeter, more intensely fruity cup with zero bitterness.

For hot brewing, use freshly boiled water at 100°C and steep for 5–7 minutes. The longer the steep, the deeper the ruby colour and the more pronounced the jammy finish.

Health & Wellness

The Red Berry Rubedo contains zero tea leaves — making it completely caffeine-free and safe to drink at any time of day or night without affecting sleep cycles.

Hibiscus is one of the richest plant sources of Vitamin C and anthocyanins — powerful antioxidants linked to immune support and cardiovascular health. Rosehip delivers additional Vitamin C alongside anti-inflammatory compounds. Elderberry has been used in traditional European medicine for centuries and is associated with immune system support.

Naturally sweet from dried fruit fructose with zero added sugar — making it an exceptional alternative to fruit juice or sugary soft drinks with none of the calories.

Origin

Hamburg, Germany. Germany’s port city has been the global centre of fine fruit tea sourcing, processing, and blending since the 19th century. German tea houses perfected the hot-air drying technique that locks in natural sugars, essential oils, and intense aroma from whole fruits and botanicals — without artificial additives or flavour enhancers.

The Red Berry Rubedo is blended in that tradition: whole hibiscus flowers for the crimson base and tart edge, dried apple pieces for mellow sweetness, rosehip shells for smooth depth, and freeze-dried elderberries and raspberries for the signature jammy finish.

No powders. No extracts. No shortcuts.

Storage & Freshness

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong kitchen aromas. Our resealable heat-sealed pouches lock out oxygen and preserve the volatile aromatic compounds in the hibiscus, rosehip, and freeze-dried berries.

Enjoy within 6 months of opening for peak colour intensity and flavour. Unopened, the blend remains at its best for up to 18 months from production.

For the purist: transfer to a dark ceramic or tin caddy at room temperature. Never refrigerate — condensation damages dried botanicals and accelerates flavour loss.

Cost Per Cup

A premium fruit infusion from a London tea merchant will cost you £1.50–£2.50 per cup. A café iced berry tea, £4.00–£5.00. The Red Berry Rubedo delivers the same whole-botanical, hand-blended quality — for a fraction of either.

25 Pyramid Teabags — 96p per cup. Each biodegradable pyramid bag is generously filled with whole hibiscus, dried fruit pieces, and freeze-dried berries — never dust or powder.

250g Loose Leaf — 40p per cup. Over 80 cups of exceptional German fruit infusion from a single pantry bag.

Based on a standard 3g serving per 200ml cup.
